Synopsis: A family in ancient Greece has a son who is contrary. He likes to joke around and have fun. His parents and people in his town think it is time for him to learn the value of work. They give him the job of tending the sheep. They warn him of the dangers of wolf attacks, but assure him that they will be nearby if he needs help. He finds this job very boring and decides to play tricks on the villagers as a joke. He learns the value of being sincere when the wolf really attacks and no one believes him.
Setting: A village in ancient Greece. The children gather around the storyteller for their lesson of the day. The children become the players and act out his fable.
Properties: 10 silk scarves (children dancers), scroll (for Aesop), wooden recorder (flute), slate tablet and chalk, pioneer button-on-a-string yo-yo, fabric satchel, small blanket, pita bread, small soccer ball (for Boy), clubs, pitchforks (for farmer and helper), Grecian urn and paint brushes, stool or small work table (for Artisan), wool in a basket and spinning top (for Woman), laundry in basket (for Mother).
