"The Story of the Speaking Bird" adapted from 1001Tales of the Arabian Nights

Listen to the Guide Performances of the songs from "Parizade's Quest"
Opener - Sung by Apprentice Storyteller Jamileh, Master Storyteller Ghalandar, and the Speaking Bird Shazelle.  Actors come out in character and join in the singing.
The beautiful Weeping Queen Kazhira is awakened by dreams in the night.  She sings of the tragic loss of her three beautiful babies.
The Gypsies are hired to provide entertainment for the Sultan's Feast celebration.  They are a troupe of dancers, singers, musicians and fortune tellers.
After her guardian dies suddenly, Parizade tries to cheer herself up.  She and her servants set about to spruce up the country estate she and her brothers inherit.
The Sultan leads his Royal Guard on maneuvers to constantly show strength against the possibility of attacks by hostile invaders.
An old woman tells Parizade of three wonderful things that would surely beautify her newly inherited country estate.  Parizade develops a longing to acquire these things.
The old woman urges Parizade to go on a Quest to go find these three very desirable things.  She says that they are not found in the marketplace, only one who can successfully undertake this Quest can get them.
The Sultan discovers pearls inside his stuffed cucumbers, but does not recognize the priceless pearls standing before him.  The Speaking Bird then tells him that the precious pearls he has missed are his long lost children.  A family is then reunited --- and the weeping Queen smiles again!
