Synopsis: A family in ancient Greece has a son who is just plain contrary! He just wants to goof around and have fun all day. His family and the people in his town think that he should learn to work. They give him the job of tending the sheep. He gets bored and calls the people to come running to save the sheep from an imaginary wolf. He pulls this trick once too often and finally learns how important sincerity really is. "Never Cry Wolf" is an expanded (larger and longer) show created from the story of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." The story line and many of the songs remain the same, but more colorful characters and situations have been created to broaden the telling. |
"Long, Long Ago" is sung by the Muses/Teachers, Aesop and their class of students as he begins to tell his fable about Alec, the Contrary Boy.

"Hurry, Hurry, Busy, Busy" is sung by the Mother of the Contrary Boy as she hurries her family and servants along to get to the Agora for Market Day. Alec comes sauntering into breakfast showing how lazy he can be.

"Tapestry of Life" is a sung by the women who are finishing their weaving projects and getting ready for Market Day. They sing about how "women's work is never-ending, always family and home attending, while our influence is extending as we're weaving a tapestry of life."

"Set It for Posterity" is a song sung by the flamboyant artisan Altair the Magnificent and his Muses to the Politicians as they are discussing their plans at the Acropolis.

"Take Care, Beware" is sung by the citizens who try to impress upon Alec, the Contrary Boy, how to watch for the Wolf when he tends the sheep.

"The Little Lambs' Pastorale" - Alec plays his panpipes as he guides the sheep to graze.
|
"A View from the Highest Mountain" is sung by Alec, the Contrary Boy, in a moment when he wonders why he is so misunderstood by his parents and the people in his town.

"Being Sincere" is sung by the Mother as tries to impress upon Alec to do what he should.
|
"Foolish Boy" is sung by the famers and villagers when Alec's trick's have gone too far.
|
"Now I Realize" is sung by a remorseful Alec when he realizes he cannot save the sheep from the Wolf.
|
"Ev'rybody Works" is sung by the Father and the entire cast as they explain to Alec that everybody has a job to do and that each job is important and valued.
